Happy birthday Tom Simpson. Here you’ll catch a Peugeot publicity postcard of the late, and very great cyclist,, a Harworth lad who became Britain’s only men’s world road race champion at San Sebastian, Spain, in 1965. Other notable wins were his first classic in 1961, Tour of Flanders, first Briton to take the yellow jersey in the Tour de France in 1962, Bordeaux-Paris in 1963, Milan-San Remo in 1964, Giro di Lombardia in 1965 and Paris-Nice in 1967. These are only a small amount of the vast number of races he won and was well placed in during his fantastic career. Thanks to Paris-Roubaix’s Flickr stream for the photo and text.
